But I will stay on at Ephesus until Pentecost, because a great door for effective work has opened to me, and there are many who oppose me. 1 Corinthians 16:8-9 NIV
Here is a Biblical test to see if your work for the Lord is effective: Is it growing in opposition?
Wow, fun test, huh? That's the kind of test that would actually be more pleasant if you lost, wouldn't it? Who wants to be opposed? Who wants to face rejection? Who desires to receive glaring looks, persecution, to be disliked or questioned? Is there anyone who will sign up for such a project?
Yet, Jesus said that He came to seperate mothers from their daughters (look it up if you don't believe me, Matt. 10:35). Did Jesus mean He wanted you to stop loving your mother? Of course not! That would be totally contrary to all the rest of His word. He meant that when you serve Him people will oppose you. They opposed Jesus on Earth, didn't they?
The greatest ministries, the most notable works for Christ will always face opposition. They always have and always will.
How effective are you?
