Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Delight yourself in the LORD and He will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:3-4 NIV
Now that we are trusting in the Lord and doing good, our focus verse tells us to “dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.” Immediately this makes me think of the shepherd David and his 23rd Psalm. The truth of the Good Shepherd makes me want to dwell in the land.
I think as we learn to trust in the Lord and do good as He is good, then we will feel comfortable in His presence. We will be at Home with Jesus!
I often watch as people come back to church after a period of absence. They look around wondering why they don’t know anyone. It seems as if they feel out of place. I know that the body of Christ needs to do a better job of welcoming people into the fellowship, but I also recognize that their lack of connection to the church is most likely due to their extended absence. The more we are around God and God’s people the more we begin to feel at home.
The same goes for our relationship with Christ. If we rarely speak to Him, or acknowledge His activity in our life, we will often feel out of touch with Him. If, however, we are growing in our knowledge and dependence on Him, we will feel an increasing closeness to Him. There is something about a close relationship with Christ, which brings about feelings of peace and security. The world can be caving in around, me, but if my walk with the Lord is close, I know that everything is ultimately going to be okay.
Are you feeling out of touch with Christ these days? Maybe you need to first work on your trust of the Lord and strengthen your attempt to be like Jesus. It is then that you will begin to “dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.”
