I may not see in front of me, But I can see for miles around when I look over my shoulder, and Lord, it`s clear. You`ve brought me here, So faithful every step of the way. What can I do but follow you, For You are the Way, the Truth, the Life, And You`ve promised never to leave me, My Savior, my friend, From beginning to end.

I Am Found In You by Steven Curtis Chapman
The Body of Christ
By: Ron Edmondson Wednesday, January 31, 2001
And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, "This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me."

Luke 22:19 NIV

It was just a piece of bread. It wasn't holy in and of itself, but what it stood for was the Holiness of God, come down in the form of a man. It stood for the provision of God for His most precious creation. It stood for the hope that you and I have today.

A couple of weeks ago, I was helping to serve the Lord's Supper at church. A young boy was about to observe his first Lord's Supper and so I sat down beside him, whispering to him the importance of the bread and the "fruit of the vine". I told him that the bread represented Christ's body, bruised and broken for us on the cross. I told him that the juice represented Christ's blood, shed for the remission of sins, so that a sinful man could reach a Holy God.

As I spoke with him, the Lord began to move in my heart. Suddenly the "lesson" wasn't for the boy, but for me. God began to share with my heart that perhaps I had sat down to take this ordinance too lightly.

What Christ did for me on the cross was eliminate my guilt and shame. He took away my sentence of eternal death and gave me eternal life. When I looked at that simple piece of bread, it reminded me that Christ provided His very self so that I might receive salvation!

And the gift was not limited to an eternal homecoming! Christ's submission to the cross also provided me with strength for today. Just as God provided manna each day for the Israelites, which was "just enough" for that day, Christ's provision for me today is sufficient for any need that I have. He died so that I might live life more abundantly! His blood was shed so that I might be included as an heir of God! Through Him, I have received God's greatest gift!

It was one of the best Lord's Suppers I had ever experienced, because I was reminded that Christ is my salvation, my portion, and my constant provision for daily living. Isn't that why Christ said "Do this in remembrance of me."?

Remember what He has done for you today!
