He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, "Quiet! Be still!" Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. Mark 4:39 NIV
In the margin of my Bible I always like to write the word “Duh” beside this verse. When Jesus speaks peace into a storm, the winds die down and it is completely calm. Everyone knows that! Don’t they?
You may be in the midst of a furious squall today. You may feel as if you are drowning. You may question if Jesus really cares. I believe the Scripture teaches that God uses the storms of life to teach us principles about Himself that we couldn’t learn in any other way. Your storm may be caused simply by living in a fallen world, by your own sin, by the sin of others, or by God’s allowing circumstances to come into your life to grow you to be more like Christ. (For us to be like Jesus: That's God's ultimate goal!)
Whatever the reason, I want to be very clear about something. When the time comes that God has accomplished His purposes for the storm in your life, He will have no problem calming your storm. Let me say that again, because someone needs to hear this. When God has accomplished His purpose in your life through the storm, there will be no problem too big for God to calm the storm. The outcome may still not be what you expected, but God will complete His will in your life towards an ultimate good!
When Jesus says “Peace, Be still!”, the winds die down and everything, I repeat everything is completely calm. Can you say, “DUH”?
