I may not see in front of me, But I can see for miles around when I look over my shoulder, and Lord, it`s clear. You`ve brought me here, So faithful every step of the way. What can I do but follow you, For You are the Way, the Truth, the Life, And You`ve promised never to leave me, My Savior, my friend, From beginning to end.
I Am Found In You

The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name. Acts 5:41 NIV
This verse has always amazed me a little bit. I'm not sure I have completely reached this level of spiritual maturity that I relish the idea of suffering disgrace. I did, however, have an opportunity recently to watch this principle in action.
My young son has formed a new "band" in school with a few of his friends. He told me that he asked his teacher if they could sing their first song in front of the whole class. She asked him which song and he said, "Onward Christian Soldier". Her reply was, "Well, I guess it would depend on how many times it uses the word 'Christian'". My son was crushed. He did not understand that this was a "taboo" subject in public schools today.
I shared with my son that he had actually suffered for the Name of Christ. Just like the apostles in the first century, my son had been told no, simply because he was glorifying the name of Jesus. It wasn't that it was a bad song, or that he couldn't carry a tune (although that may be true as well), but that he was going to proclaim to the class his faith.
I told my son that he had been, in a sense, persecuted for Christ, and that because he had stood firm, he would be rewarded in Heaven. His response: "Neat, Daddy, that's cool!"
I guess I understand how the apostles felt. "Neat, cool!...I get to suffer for the Name of Christ!"
Are you ready to say the same?
