I may not see in front of me, But I can see for miles around when I look over my shoulder, and Lord, it`s clear. You`ve brought me here, So faithful every step of the way. What can I do but follow you, For You are the Way, the Truth, the Life, And You`ve promised never to leave me, My Savior, my friend, From beginning to end.

I Am Found In You by Steven Curtis Chapman
Proverbs 27:8

Like a bird that strays from its nest is a man who strays from his home. Proverbs 27:8 NIV

We have lots of birds in our yard. We love it when one of our cardinals choose to build a nest in the bushes or trees close to the house, because we get to watch them raise their young and carry out their normal “bird” life. I wasn’t a bird enthusiast until I began to watch these little God creatures in my yard.

The other day I was watching as a mother bird taught her baby bird to fly. She worked all day coaxing the baby out of the nest. The smaller bird seemed to like the comforts of home. In its short lifetime it had grown accustomed to the good care of its mother.

I have always wondered why people stray from the comforts of home. I know that bird had to spread his wings in order to fulfill God’s plan for its life. It had to learn to fly, build its own nest and have its own baby birds. I’m talking more about men (and unfortunately women) who give up their families; most of the time just because the grass looks greener somewhere else.

In my years of experience working with couples who separate, almost without exception (there are a few rare cases otherwise), the leaving party later regrets having left. Sometimes, if it is not too late they return home. Often, they spend the rest of their life living with regrets of what could have been had they stayed. In the balance children and others are injured because they strayed from home.

I only wish I could convince some of these people that their best life may be found right where they are; learning to make the home work, committing themselves to Christ, and allowing Him to shape the quality of their home.

Thankfully, I have seen dozens of examples where God does indeed work a miracle in a family’s life; restores the “nest” and keeps everyone safe at home. God, in a broken world, we would request that you do that more!
