As a dog returns to its vomit, so a fool repeats his folly. Proverbs 26:11
Two observations about today’s verse:
1. I wonder why the writer had to use the term “his folly”. Would this verse only apply to us guys? (Just kidding, I know why, but I do think that’s funny.)
2. I think this is the kind of verse that my wife would reprimand me if I used it in the pulpit! (I get in trouble for talking like my boys and I talk in front of crowds of people!)
Anyway, I think this is a great verse. I see so much of myself in this verse; not so much vomit part, but certainly the folly part. I don’t understand why I always seem to repeat the same mistakes over and over again. One would think I would learn from past mistakes.
Certainly one would think I would try!
Am I alone here or can you identify?
Lord, help us to learn from past bad decisions and keep us from doing them again.
