I may not see in front of me, But I can see for miles around when I look over my shoulder, and Lord, it`s clear. You`ve brought me here, So faithful every step of the way. What can I do but follow you, For You are the Way, the Truth, the Life, And You`ve promised never to leave me, My Savior, my friend, From beginning to end.

I Am Found In You by Steven Curtis Chapman
Pleasant and Fitting
By: Ron Edmondson Tuesday, February 05, 2002
Praise the LORD. How good it is to sing praises to our God, how pleasant and fitting to praise Him! Psalm 147:1 NIV

Show me a bad day and I’ll show you a day that needs to lift voices in praise! Show me a broken heart, and I’ll show you are heart that needs to sing praises to God. Show me a wounded spirit; a discouraged saint; a frightened child; and I’ll show you someone who needs to spend some quality and quantity of time with the God who was and is and is to come! Our God is worthy to be praised on a regular; even daily basis!

Today’s verse says that it is pleasant and fitting to praise God. When something is pleasant it isn’t hard to do, is it? My wife and I have shared responsibilities around the house. I don’t mind vacuuming and dusting, but it is one of my wife’s least favorite chores. I really don’t enjoy cleaning the bathrooms, but my wife is okay with this chore. Vacuuming and dusting to me can pleasant (at least more pleasant) work. If I have to clean the bathrooms, I’m going to procrastinate and probably complain all the way!

Some of us put off our time alone with God, because we see it as an interruption in our day. What we fail to recognize is that praising God is really pleasant work! It’s fun! Once we get into a habit of daily coming to the Lord; of having a “quiet time”, we discover that we wouldn’t want to go through life any longer without it! It’s pleasant!

The other great part about establishing a consistent devotion life is that it is fitting! In other words; it works! When we have company coming to my house, we may not relish the idea of vacuuming, dusting, and cleaning the latrines, but if we want our house to look presentable, we have to get busy. If you and I want to be in a vibrant, growing relationship with our Heavenly Father, then we must get busy. We must invest the necessary time to get to know our Savior. It is “fitting” to spend time with the Lord.

How is your devotion life? Have you spoken with the Father yet today? Tell Him you love Him. Get to know Him through the reading of His Word. Praise Him with a little song or two (He actually loves your voice.). Show God there is no other in your life quite like Jesus! It is pleasant and fitting to praise the Lord!
