Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:10 NIV
I am currently reading a book about the life of Corrie Tin Boon. Let me tell you that I have never experienced persecution. This saint's life, attempting to protect the Jews during the Holocaust, was the perfect example of a Christian martyr.
I can tell you though that persecution of Christians is more readily accepted today than ever before. The Bible and prayer has been taken out of schools. Children are told not to speak of Jesus. The workplace must be "pressure" free from relating to Christ.
I was in a political forum recently and the moderator asked me a question relating to the treatment of others. I stated that as a Christian I was bound to a higher authority and that I was commanded to love others as myself. Someone sent me an anonymous note after that criticizing me for "mixing church and state". I cherish that note!
I find that within the community civic and charitable circles I am often left out of discussions and certain functions because it is readily known that I am an active Christian.
No, I am not Corrie Tin Boon! Thank you God for your hand of protection around me. My first question is: Do I have the character she had that will never give up my faith, because of persecution?
And my second question is: Do you?
