I may not see in front of me, But I can see for miles around when I look over my shoulder, and Lord, it`s clear. You`ve brought me here, So faithful every step of the way. What can I do but follow you, For You are the Way, the Truth, the Life, And You`ve promised never to leave me, My Savior, my friend, From beginning to end.

I Am Found In You by Steven Curtis Chapman
People Prepared
By: Ron Edmondson Tuesday, January 04, 2000
"Many of the people of Israel will he bring back to the Lord their God. And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous...to make ready a people prepared for the Lord." Luke 1:16-17 NIV

John the Baptist had a great purpose. He was born to prepare people for the coming of the Lord. Wow!

You know the story. Zechariah and Elizabeth were without child. Being from priestly heritages, they had each cried out to the Lord. When both were well advanced in years, God gives them the gift of a son, John the Baptist. He was born with a specific calling: to prepare people for the fulfilling of prophecy; the coming of the Messiah.

John the Baptist was different. Set apart at birth, he never defiled himself with wine or wild living. He was a rugged man, beastly almost in appearance. I'm quite sure when he entered a room you knew it. He certainly stood out in a crowd. Perhaps this is how he captured so much attention?

Let me ask you something. Whose purpose is it now to prepare people for the second coming of the Lord? Who has God called to prepare the way for the Lord? Who is to be the "John the Baptists" of the day? Who is to be set apart, different from the crowds?

Dear Christian friend, are we fulfilling our role as John the Baptist did? Are we preparing a lost world for the coming of the Lord?

Shouldn't our mission statement read:

"to make ready a people prepared for the Lord!"
