Paul's Encouragement to Us
And because of this I rejoice. Yes, and I will continue to rejoice, for I know that through your prayers and the help given by the Spirit of Jesus Christ, what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance. Philippians 1:18b-19 NIV
Paul rejoices because he knows Jesus is being lifted up through his trial! Now that is a proper Christian perspective!
When you and I go through trials, others are watching. They will either see us reaching for Christ or turning from Christ. They will either see us trusting Christ more, or they will see us rejecting the truth of His word. God has promised us victory in Him. He has not promised us a life free of hardship, but He has promised that through Christ, we can overcome the world.
I don’t know the depth of your pain. I can’t fully comprehend all that you are going through, even if you shared every minute detail with me. I haven’t been where you are at. I haven’t walked in your shoes. Don’t misunderstand what I’m saying, I have had my own trials, but each one’s struggles are unique to them. The feelings and emotions you have today are yours.
What I do know is that my “God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.” I know that you can “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified” because “the LORD your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you." I have experienced a God whose love “surpasses knowledge” and who “is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.” And, for that reason, my encouragement is to “stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”
Finally I would say, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go."
