I may not see in front of me, But I can see for miles around when I look over my shoulder, and Lord, it`s clear. You`ve brought me here, So faithful every step of the way. What can I do but follow you, For You are the Way, the Truth, the Life, And You`ve promised never to leave me, My Savior, my friend, From beginning to end.

I Am Found In You by Steven Curtis Chapman
My Best Friend
By: Ron Edmondson Thursday, February 17, 2000
A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. Proverbs 18:24 NIV

We have some good friends in our Sunday School class with two small boys. Having boys of our own has caused me to show special interest in these young men. Recently the father asked his youngest son (5 years old), who his best friend is. His reply was Mr. Ron! (That's me.) Talk about making my day!

I was sharing that story with my youngest son. I asked him who his best friend was. I was expecting to hear David, or Garnett, or maybe even me (when he was five I was it!). Instead, my son said, "My best friend is Jesus!" Wow! Should have been my answer too!

Great answer from an 8 year old, and convicting to me. But, it also made for an interesting discussion. I replied to my son, "that's great, son. I'm proud of your answer. I wish I had said that. But son, let me ask you something. If someone is your best friend, shouldn't we want to spend all the time with them that we can? Isn't that what best friends are for?" I think I was asking as much for me as I was for him.

My son agreed and we went on to another discussion. An hour or so later, I walked into my son's room and there he was sitting, reading his Bible, and praying. He was spending some time with his best friend.

Folks, if we want to have a "best" friendship with our Savior, then we will have to give Him a little (or a lot) of our time! Thank you son for reminding me!
