I may not see in front of me, But I can see for miles around when I look over my shoulder, and Lord, it`s clear. You`ve brought me here, So faithful every step of the way. What can I do but follow you, For You are the Way, the Truth, the Life, And You`ve promised never to leave me, My Savior, my friend, From beginning to end.

I Am Found In You by Steven Curtis Chapman
Missions 11

Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, Ephesians 3:20

(This week, in honor of our missions series, I'm continuing reflecting on my own mission experiences.)

Within the slums of Brazil there is usually a radio frequency assigned just to that particular slum area. We found out about this early during our visit to the slum where we had our medical clinic and evangelism team. Since I have a radio ministry, one year we inquired of our host pastor if it were possible for me to get on the radio. They said "no", because they had no connection to the radio in that slum. Usually the radio station, because it is their means of disseminating information to the people, is controlled by the drug operation leaders. We resolved to the fact that it was not something we were going to be able to do.

One afternoon, while trying to find a home we were supposed to visit, we stopped at a house to ask for directions. The home had a big dog, that from all appearances, didn't like us very much, so we stayed outside and talked to the lady of the house. As we were seeking directions, and getting to know her, we began to hear rapid gunfire. What had been a busy street, quickly became deserted. We scrambled into the house, dog or no dog, and quickly hit the floor.

It would help you to understand the awesomeness of this story, if you knew how these slums are laid out, and that it is so difficult to navigate your way around them, even if you live there. You want to hear a God thing? This was the house that hosted the radio station. The lady who runs it was now our host. She had recently become a Christian, but didn't have a church home. She wanted me to join her on the radio. The church didn't know where she was, but God did!

It saddens me to say that I didn't get to go on the radio while I was located at that slum. Time never permitted it. I was able, however, to introduce our new friend to the church pastor and he promised to be a regular guest on the radio. God can do more than we can ever imagine!

Is there something you feel is impossible? Is there anything you have been trusting God for so long, you are beginning to think it is no longer an option? Why not continue to pray and trust God? God can do things beyond our wildest imagination. If He can help us stumble upon a hidden radio station, in the middle of a very densely populated, dangerous slum on Governor's Island in Brazil, when even the people who live there couldn't find it, God can surely come through for you! And, He will! Keep trusting!
