I may not see in front of me, But I can see for miles around when I look over my shoulder, and Lord, it`s clear. You`ve brought me here, So faithful every step of the way. What can I do but follow you, For You are the Way, the Truth, the Life, And You`ve promised never to leave me, My Savior, my friend, From beginning to end.

I Am Found In You by Steven Curtis Chapman
meekness
By: Ron Edmondson Monday, February 09, 1998
Blessed are the meek...for they will inherit the earth. Matthew 5:5 NIV

We have a hard time with that verse, don't we? Meekness 101 is not a popular course in our universities, or even in our churches. We would much rather talk about the "most popular ways to get ahead", than how to discover riches through meekness.

This writer won't pretend to be an expert on the subject either, but I also won't ignore the word of God. Blessed are the meek....for they shall inherit the earth!

Meekness might be defined as lowly, de-emphasizing of self and giving other's recognition ahead of self recognition. Webster wasn't far off when he said that meekness is showing patience and humility, gentle, easily imposed upon and submissive.

Wow, easily imposed upon, submissive......now those are the qualities you and I want to teach to are children, aren't they?

John the Baptist said that he must decrease in order for Christ to increase in his life. I think that's the idea behind meekness. Christ first, other's second, myself third. Putting other's interests ahead of my own may not appeal to my intellect, my schooling, or my "keen business sense", but it relates to a heart that loves God and that desires the things He desires.

Meekness will require us to accept instruction and counsel from Him and from others. It will force us to submit to authority and not to explode when others dare challenge our position or role.

Meekness may not meet the textbook definition (according to the world) of how we demand success in life, but meekness will put us into a right relationship with God, and into a bless able position with the Creator and Sustainer of life. The reward for meekness is an eternal inheritance that will outweigh all this world has to offer.

Meekness may be the retirement plan you have been looking for? Invest it all today!
