Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. Matthew 16:24 NKJV
Next in this powerful verse we see that Jesus spoke “to His disciples”. Jesus had a special ministry with the disciples, but there is something you and I need to understand when we read the teaching of Christ on earth. He was speaking to us too, His disciples in 2004.
The children of God, according to the Bible, are “grafted into” the body of Christ by the act of Christ on the Cross. The promises of God to the disciples become our promises because of the grace God extends through Jesus Christ. The Bible says we are “heirs of the promise”!
Are you currently living like the royalty that you are in Christ Jesus? Do you have a grin on your face because you have been bought with a price and have the promise of an eternity with God in Heaven and the promise of abundant life here on earth? The Bible says we don’t mourn like the world mourns. Why? Because we know how the story ends! We win! Our future is held in the person of Christ. We are on the side of victory!
Jesus told the disciples He would not leave them alone, but would send the promised Holy Spirit. Guess what? Jesus gave us the same gift! Whatever you are going through today, you can hold your head high, because your Father is on His throne and everything is under control!
Having recently watched Mel Gibson's "Passion of Christ" movie, I am reminded again of the suffering Christ went through so that He might bring us to God. Lord help us never forget Your gift of grace and love through the Cross!
