I may not see in front of me, But I can see for miles around when I look over my shoulder, and Lord, it`s clear. You`ve brought me here, So faithful every step of the way. What can I do but follow you, For You are the Way, the Truth, the Life, And You`ve promised never to leave me, My Savior, my friend, From beginning to end.
I Am Found In You

Woe to you Pharisees! For you love the best seats in the synagogues and greetings in the marketplaces. Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like graves which are not seen, and the men who walk over them are not aware of them.” Luke 11:43 - 44 NKJV
Do you have a high opinion of yourself? My experience tells me that the greater we think we are, the less we probably really are in the eyes of others.
Several years ago God convicted me of pride. He taught me that humility is honored before Him, not self-boasting. I was not an outward bragger, but I did take pride when others recognized my “greatness”. I liked the accolades I received for a job well-done. I enjoyed when those around me realized how “special” I was. All this pride was based on my service to the church. I was a Sunday school teacher, a deacon; a leader. Everyone (so I thought) thought I was wonderful and it made me proud.
I don’t like being that brutally honest, but it’s true. God convicted me that my pride was an abomination to Him. He hated it. I remember God telling me that I had already received the rewards for those acts of service. There would be no further reward. It was a hard lesson, but it made me a stronger believer. I still can struggle with pride, but I’m much more conscious of it now.
What about you? Do you take pride in what you do for Christ? Do you need recognition in the church bulletin? Are you disappointed when people don’t know it was you who accomplished something? Do you need the pastor to give you a pat on the back? Do you expect him to speak to you every Sunday, because of “who” you are?
If this is convicting…speak with God about it. If you have no pride issues to contend with…congratulations!
