I may not see in front of me, But I can see for miles around when I look over my shoulder, and Lord, it`s clear. You`ve brought me here, So faithful every step of the way. What can I do but follow you, For You are the Way, the Truth, the Life, And You`ve promised never to leave me, My Savior, my friend, From beginning to end.

I Am Found In You by Steven Curtis Chapman
Love of Money
By: Ron Edmondson Monday, September 29, 2008
Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5 NIV

God didn't say, “Don't like money!” He didn't say, “You don't need money!” He didn't say, “Don't acquire money!” He didn't say, “Don't have money!” He said, “Keep yourselves ‘free’ from the love of money.”

God is doing us a favor here. You and I both know that money is a necessary evil in society. Even in the purest sense of the word, money is needed to provide for the basics of life. Your food, clothing and shelter (at least for most of us) must be paid for by someone. Money must be exchanged at some level.

God knows that! What God is saying to us here is that we should “free” ourselves by letting go of the “LOVE” of money. This word love means placing your whole will and emotions into the practice of loving. In other words, you have chosen to love, and you like it. You not only have chosen to love money, but you really enjoy your times of loving money. It gets you excited.

I might compare it to a love relationship with a spouse. You have chosen, because of your legal commitment, to love this person (through good times and bad). There are certain times, however, when you really “feel” in love. You can't wait to be around them. You want to shower them with attention. You want to please them. That is the love based on emotion.

God wants us to be free of that type of love for money, so that we can place our love in the proper perspective. We are to love Christ with all our heart, soul and mind and love our neighbor as ourselves. When we give this kind of love to God, He showers us with His blessings. We are free from the burden of dependency on money by placing our total dependency on the One who owns it all: God.

God has already promised us He will never leave us or forsake us. Now He wants us to respond to Him with all our love.

My dear friend, I need this as much as you do. We need to rid ourselves of the fascination of money and turn our fascination to the awesomeness of the Creator. It is then that we will begin to see real peace, real contentment, real freedom, and the real Glory of God!
