And He died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for Him who died for them and was raised again. 2 Corinthians 5:15 NIV
Why do you serve Christ? Who are you trying to please with the way you live your life?
I must confess. There was a time when I enjoyed receiving recognition from my service for Christ. I was teaching a large Sunday School class, which continued to grow. Because I was fairly young, people thought I had achieved some exceptional accomplishments. I liked the attention. My serving became an effort to obtain more recognition. I was captivated with pride in myself. The Lord took me through a process of revealing the sin of pride in my life. As a result, I spent a year teaching a class of two. Even today I have to be on guard against the devil’s attempts to get me to serve out of selfish ambition.
Are you expecting something in return for your service to Christ, other than just the sheer joy of serving your Savior? I can share with you from personal experience that the greatest satisfaction in serving comes from a heart that serves out of love. Can I advise you to drop the religious activities and try a relationship with Jesus? He doesn’t need your service. He wants you to serve Him because you love Him. He wants you to share your heart, as He shared His heart with you.
Christ died for us so that we would no longer live for ourselves, but for Him who died for us. Christ died for us so that we might glorify Him as we live for Him! Does this describe your life today?
