I may not see in front of me, But I can see for miles around when I look over my shoulder, and Lord, it`s clear. You`ve brought me here, So faithful every step of the way. What can I do but follow you, For You are the Way, the Truth, the Life, And You`ve promised never to leave me, My Savior, my friend, From beginning to end.
I Am Found In You

When Jesus spoke again to the people, He said, "I Am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." John 8:12 NIV
When Jesus said "I Am the light" He was claiming to be God. This is what He was crucified for. It is quite interesting to me, that though many claim He was only a good man, the ministry of Jesus has persisted for some 2000 years. Someone told me during this past Christmas celebration that the song "Silent Night" may have one incorrect implication. It really wasn't a silent night! That quiet birth we just celebrated, has changed a world!
Light, as used here, is another name for Messiah. Jesus is the light of the world, because He is the Messiah. He is the Savior of the world. I can't explain how His popularity has continued. It is not a fad. Fads come and go. Jesus has remained popular. It is not cultural, because the gospel of Christ crosses all cultural lines. No, the gospel of Christ remains because Jesus is our Savior. Those who find Him, find a peace that passes understanding, forgiveness the world can't and won't give, and a joy that out lasts all pain.
As my nine year old son has been trying to establish a regular devotion life, I have loved watching him dive into the Word of God. Recently, after finishing a time of Bible reading, my son asked me, "Daddy, why do I feel so good after reading my Bible. It's like I keep wanting to read more." I had the priviledge of telling Him that there is something captivating about reading God's Word, because it takes us into the heart of God.
Jesus is the light of the world, because He brings sinners like you and me into the presence of an Almighty God. Praise God for His Light of the world.
