I may not see in front of me, But I can see for miles around when I look over my shoulder, and Lord, it`s clear. You`ve brought me here, So faithful every step of the way. What can I do but follow you, For You are the Way, the Truth, the Life, And You`ve promised never to leave me, My Savior, my friend, From beginning to end.

A time to laugh; Ecclesiastes 3:4 TLB

If your children are living within the guidelines you have set for them then have some “fun” with your kids. Laugh together. Love life together. Let them see you smile. There should be rewards for following the rules! God rewards us according to our good deeds. We should reward our children for doing right!

I know life is tough. I know the demands of work, home, church, social events, and every other pull life places on us can keep you from giving your best to your children. I need to ask you, however, to consider what the mission of your life really is. Isn’t it really to raise godly children? Then shouldn’t they get some of the best of your energy?

I know this issue is a whole other series, and frankly I don’t have all the answers as to how you are going to reprioritize your life, but the fact is this, if you want to raise happy, emotionally healthy children who are prepared for the stress of their own life, then they need to see you happy and enjoying life too! They need to see you laugh. They need to have “good times” with you!

Part of parenting by grace is having some quality and quantity of time just to have fun together. When is the last time you and your kids just “hung out” together, with no agenda, no distractions, and just for fun? These times should be full of laughter, with little criticism, and little instruction. Why not actually write on your busy schedule some “play time” with your kids?

Lord, help us to be better parents as we learn from how you parent us!
