I may not see in front of me, But I can see for miles around when I look over my shoulder, and Lord, it`s clear. You`ve brought me here, So faithful every step of the way. What can I do but follow you, For You are the Way, the Truth, the Life, And You`ve promised never to leave me, My Savior, my friend, From beginning to end.

I Am Found In You by Steven Curtis Chapman
John 14:20, Part 1
By: Ron Edmondson Monday, February 09, 2004
On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. John 14:20 NIV

We are going to be looking at this one verse for the whole week. Each day we will look at a particular phrase in the verse. My prayer is that we will learn more about our relationship to Christ through this great verse.

Today, let us look at the first three words of this verse: “On that day”. What day is this referring to? If we put this verse in context, Jesus was teaching His disciples during the final days of His ministry. He was preparing them to live the Christian life without His physical presence. He had just promised that He would be with them, not in body, but in Spirit, through the indwelling Holy Spirit. Jesus said “I will not leave you as orphans” (vs. 18). Then He says “Because I live you will live also” (vs. 19). When Jesus rose to life out of the grave, He became victorious over the penalty of death and He gave us access into His eternal life.

That “day” then is the day when Jesus rose to new life and the Holy Spirit came to live in the hearts of man. For you and me, that day is when we receive salvation by faith in Jesus Christ. We then enter into Jesus’ eternal life. His life becomes our life. “On that day” we become new creations in Christ Jesus.

Has “that day” happened in your life? Are you a child of God? If we were to back up in John 14, Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life, and no man comes to the Father except through Me”. Have you come to God through Jesus? The rest of the week we will look at some good news in this verse, but those blessings come only to those who have experienced “that day”!
