I may not see in front of me, But I can see for miles around when I look over my shoulder, and Lord, it`s clear. You`ve brought me here, So faithful every step of the way. What can I do but follow you, For You are the Way, the Truth, the Life, And You`ve promised never to leave me, My Savior, my friend, From beginning to end.
I Am Found In You

Dear children, keep yourselves from idols. 1 John 5:21 NIV
This week we have looked at idols that may be in our life. We have defined them, discussed them, illustrated them, and seen that when they are in our life, we miss the best God has for us. John, the great apostle of Jesus Christ, the “one whom Jesus loved”, must have understood these truths. In his letter to us he gives us a passionate plea: Dear children, (sounds like he is expressing concern, doesn’t it?) keep yourselves (sounds like we have an obligation here, doesn’t it?) from idols (sounds like they are pretty useless, doesn’t it?).
John knew a principle I hope you and I can establish in our life. Idols are worthless. Anything which takes priority over our relationship to Christ is an idol, and it will keep us from being in the close fellowship with Christ that He desires for our life. It will cause us to miss the fulness of the grace of God.
Can I share with you from personal experience as well? I have tried the world and it didn’t measure up to the glory of God. Nothing this world has to offer is as awesome as knowing Jesus Christ and being known by Him. Perhaps you will have to learn it on your own as well, but for now, keep it in the back of your mind. Idols are useless! Only what’s done for Christ will last!
Dear Lord, keep us from idols!
