Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

You know, as I examine this verse it is quite convicting. You see, if I look at the large span of my life, I find that I have spent more time in my life fearing man than fearing God.
God is the one who deserves our fear! Oh, don't get me wrong, God is a God of love. He is a God of grace and mercy. God desires that no man suffer or be separated from His presence. God is the Father of Creation, and like any good Father (really much better), God desires for His children to be near Him.
But, don't be mistaken! God is also a God of justice! God is a jealous God, capable of vast destruction! God will not tolerate sin! Sin not repented will hold a terrible consequence! God is not to be underestimated! God will not take second place to any man!
Yet, when the boss calls, or the bill collectors call, or the judge speaks, or our enemies toss out their threats, don't we buckle with fear?
My friend, during Jesus' ministry on Earth, He never gave power to Satan. In fact, Jesus overpowered Satan! Jesus defeated Satan! Jesus holds the key to Hell!
You and I are not to fear this world! We are to reverently fear God, not out of threat of condemnation, but out of genuine respect and admiration.
The God who has the power over life and death is worthy of our love and devotion and, yes, even our fear! Today, instead of wasting your fear on the things of this world, invest that fear into knowing and loving the Creator God!
It's the only fear that produces life!
