And by that same mighty power, he has given us all of his rich and wonderful promises. He has promised that you will escape the decadence all around you caused by evil desires and that you will share in his divine nature. 2 Peter 1:4 NLT
If you are following this series then you know that I am encouraging personal holiness. If this is your goal, and you attempt to implement it in your life, I want you to be fully aware of what is going to happen next. I hope you realize I am sharing this information out of personal experience.
As soon as you strive to live more holy, every evil desire you could ever think about is going to come your way. Your head is going to be flooded with opportunities for sin. If lust is your problem there will be some good-looking person who can easily distract your thoughts. If greed is your problem every advertisement you see will be a temptation. If your problem is worry, you will have plenty more to worry about. Satan will be busy trying to distract you from personal holiness. These things are certain.
What is more certain than the evil desires that will come into your mind when you strive for holiness is the power that God has over those evil desires. Every promise of the Bible for His people is at your disposal to guard against Satan and his evil ways. God will go to extreme measures to protect you from sin and keep you in holiness. In the end, God will win, because the defeat of Satan has been pre-determined at the Cross! Satan loses. God wins.
If you are a child of God you are on the winning team and you and I need to live like winners. Satan is a defeated being and we should not give him a foothold in our life. We need to stomp out sin in our life with the power of God through Jesus Christ. That’s our only hope if we want to obtain personal holiness.
