As we know Jesus better, his divine power gives us everything we need for living a godly life.
2 Peter 1:3a NLT
I want you to know that this series is probably more for the writer than the reader. God is calling me and has been calling me to live a life of holiness before Him for several years. I desire this, but to be honest, I still struggle with my thought life. I don’t always have the right actions. There are still hidden places in my heart. I probably look pretty good to the world, but inside, I know I am still far from being holy. Yet, God’s Word commands me to “be holy because He who call you is holy.” (1 Peter 1:16) I need to learn to be more holy. Unless you have achieved that perfection, then perhaps this series is for you too.
The good news about achieving holiness is that God has already given us what we need to succeed. Several years ago I purchased a piece of furniture that came in a box. You know the kind. One big piece of furniture that somehow fits into one seemingly tiny box. After an hour of struggle I came to realize that I was missing a part that was critical to completing the project. I couldn’t put the furniture together without the missing part.
You may feel that holiness is an ideal you can’t obtain, because you’ve tried so many times before and failed. You may have come to a conclusion that you just don’t have what it takes to be holy. I want you to read today’s verse again. You do have what it takes. You just have to rely on that power more as you get to know Christ better.
We’ll talk more about this during this series, but please understand; God has commanded you and I to be holy. God has equipped us through Jesus Christ to be holy, and God is working in our life to produce holiness.
