When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”
Mark 2:5 NIV
What friends! The four friends had carried their paralytic friend to Jesus to be healed. Together, each holding a corner, they presented their faith before the Lord. And Heaven moved!
Jesus healed, instantly, first the spiritual soul of the man, and then the physical body. The people were amazed! So am I!
We know from scripture that Jesus knows our hearts. In fact, He knows us better than we know ourselves. Jesus could obviously look into this man's heart and see evidence of his faith. But, read closely, the scripture doesn't say Jesus healed the man because of “his” faith, but when He saw “their” faith.
I believe this man had a saving faith, but I also believe Jesus acted, before the man could speak a word, on behalf of the great faith of the paralytic's friends. He saw in them a devotion, a courage, a rock-solid faith.
You and I need friends like that today. More importantly, you and I need to be friends like that today. Grab hold of someone's mat today. Hold tight and carry them to Jesus!
