I may not see in front of me, But I can see for miles around when I look over my shoulder, and Lord, it`s clear. You`ve brought me here, So faithful every step of the way. What can I do but follow you, For You are the Way, the Truth, the Life, And You`ve promised never to leave me, My Savior, my friend, From beginning to end.
I Am Found In You

and the other was named Eliezer, for he said, "My father's God was my Helper; He saved me from the sword of Pharaoh." Exodus 18:4 NIV
When I first read this verse it disturbed me. Eliezer is one of the sons of Moses. Moses, of course, you know very well. Of all the Old Testament saints, perhaps none is better known than Moses. It was comforting to know that Eliezer saw God in his father, but somehow I felt that Eliezer should have his own relationship with God. He should have said "My God" instead of "My father's God".
Then it ocurred to me. Perhaps this is not such a bad statement afterall. Imagine seeing such a deep devotion to God and admiring your father so much, that you refer to YOUR God, as HIS God. Perhaps Eliezer couldn't get over the fact that his father had led the people out of Egypt. Maybe the testimony of the forty years Moses spent preparing for ministry inspired Eliezer. Maybe Eliezer's goal in life was to one day, through prayer and determination, become as devoted to God as was his father Moses. Maybe Eliezer's goal was to learn to fully worship and know his "father's God"!
Let me ask you something? Do you know someone that has a close walk with the Lord, that, if you could, you would like to be like that someday? Is there someone close to you, that you could truly say, seems to have a deeper commitment to the Lord than you have ever experienced?
Dear Christian friend, the only way I know to obtain that kind of relationship with the Creator is to step by step, day by day, walk with the Lord. Like Eliezer, who I believe saw something he wanted in his father's relationship to God, we must commit ourselves to growing in the Lord. Then our sons and daughters may say of us, "I want to know my parents God." Wouldn't that be a blessing indeed!
