I will give you a new heart and put a new Spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. Ezekiel 36:26 NIV
Trivia question: Who performed the first successful heart transplant?
Did you answer God; the same God who invented the heart?
God not only began transplating hearts, He is still in the business today! When you become a Christian, God takes away your heart of stone that is unmoldable, unusable to God because of sin. In its place, He gives you a new heart, a heart of flesh, one in which He can shape into His will for your life and into the image of His Son.
I have always marveled at the brilliant heart transplants of God. I'm sure most surgeons today would tell you that some transplants are more difficult than others; and more needed. There are some whose hearts are so badly damaged, it is much harder to perform successfully.
Thankfully, God is the expert in heart transplants. I have seen Him take a heart that is worn out and bitter through years of sin and transform it into a heart that is tender and gentle. As I write this, I am reminded of a friend of mine who I knew growing up as one of the leading town drunks. He was a gambler, loving everything about the wild life. I also recall the day, at one of his lowest points, when he fell to his knees and accepted God's love through Christ.
My friend, after his successful heart transplant, has now been serving the Lord as a pastor for over 20 years. I know of no other pastor in this city who is more dedicated to the Lord and His people than this man.
Yes, God is in the heart transplant business! Do you know anyone who needs to be operated on? Pray for that today!
