I may not see in front of me, But I can see for miles around when I look over my shoulder, and Lord, it`s clear. You`ve brought me here, So faithful every step of the way. What can I do but follow you, For You are the Way, the Truth, the Life, And You`ve promised never to leave me, My Savior, my friend, From beginning to end.
I Am Found In You

"Who of you is left who saw this house in its former glory? How does it look to you now? Does it not seem to you like nothing? Haggai 2:3 NIV
Haggai, the prophet, was bringing God's Word to the people concerning the rebuilding of a temple for the Lord. God didn't need the temple, but He wanted it built as a symbol of His importance among His people and as a testament to those who didn't choose Him as Lord.
Solomon's temple, with all of its splendor, was the most magnificent structure of all time. Some have estimated that with today's money it would have taken literally billions of dollars to re-create. It was truly a powerful reminder to all who saw it just how marvelous the Lord God Almighty, the Creator, is! But then it was destroyed!
Are there things that used to be in your life that just aren't there anymore? You've lost a loved one. A friend has moved away and you miss their companionship. Maybe you moved from a town you onced loved. Even the loss of a pet can sometimes cause you to reflect on the former days.
Life is full of disappointments, but we need to understand that the glory of God is still the same. This world has its ups and downs, but God's glory is not diminished. God is the one constant in a world of constant change! He is our refuge in times of trouble.
It is still okay to hold on to fond memories of the past. We can cherish our memories as the Israelites recalled the former temple and all of its glory, but our hope is in a future that is with our Father God in Eternity, and with that we find comfort for our weary days.
