I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. Psalms 119:11NIV
If you want to be able to make gut decisions, then you will have to educate your gut. Using wisdom in a moment’s notice means that you have acquired wisdom over time. You can’t enter the realm of making big decisions quickly if you haven’t invested in building wisdom along the way.
My boys never understood why they have to take courses in school they “will never use again”. They haven’t yet developed the insight that everything we learn adds to what we already know and develops our capacity to learn even more. Life experience and education builds upon itself. The ability to reason through an algebra problem helps one later reason through another life problem. Art appreciation now helps me appreciate other parts of God’s creation I might otherwise miss.
Don’t quit gaining wisdom from God’s Word. You may have read the Bible a hundred times (probably not for most of us), but read it again. Ask God to show you new insights into His character and being. Ask Him to show you His ways. Sit with Him long enough in prayer to grow in your love and knowledge of your Creator.
Here’s a start. Read a Proverb a day for a month. Watch how God fills you with wisdom to make wise (and quick) decisions.
