I may not see in front of me, But I can see for miles around when I look over my shoulder, and Lord, it`s clear. You`ve brought me here, So faithful every step of the way. What can I do but follow you, For You are the Way, the Truth, the Life, And You`ve promised never to leave me, My Savior, my friend, From beginning to end.
I Am Found In You

Now Adonijah, whose mother was Haggith, put himself forward and said, "I will be king." So he got chariots and horses ready, with fifty men to run ahead of him 1 Kings 1:5
When David was about to die, his son Adonijah wanted to be king. It wasn’t God’s plan and it wasn’t David’s plan, but it was Adonijah’s plan. Solomon, whose mother was Bathsheba actually became king, but not until Adonijah had disrupted the kingdom trying to bring about his own agenda. Adonijah, because of his greed, ends up losing his life. Adonijah had an improper motivation.
Not many of us will ever have to make such decisions. Most of us will never position ourselves to be kings, or even presidents. The point here, however, is that we should learn from the mistakes of Adonijah. We must be careful not to position ourselves to anything unless it is God honoring in our life.
This does not mean that we can’t have goals or ambitions for our life. I think it can actually be God-honoring to advance our status in life if our ultimate purpose is to glorify Him! What I’m referring to is placing our agenda ahead of the Lord’s agenda for our life.
I remember a few months ago, just after I had mailed out another resume, I began contemplating what my new role would be in this company if I got the job for which I was applying. At the time I thought that was an okay ambition, but later I learned I was actually still running from God’s call upon my life. The Lord had bigger plans for me. I can’t tell you I have seen all the fruits of my commitment to the Lord, but I can tell you that my faith is firmly planted on God’s plan being revealed through me.
What is your greatest ambition? What do you want to accomplish more than anything else? How does God fit into those plans? I know those are tough questions to ask yourself, but only you can answer them.
