The messengers returned with the news that Esau was on his way to meet Jacob--with an army of four hundred men! Jacob was terrified at the news. He divided his household, along with the flocks and herds and camels, into two camps. He thought, "If Esau attacks one group, perhaps the other can escape." Genesis 32:6-8 NLT
(To understand this series completely, read Genesis Chapter 32.)
This is a story about Jacob. Perhaps you remember him; son of Isaac, twin of Esau. Jacob tricked Esau out of his birth rite, ran away for years. When we get to this point, Jacob is one day from going to meet his brother for the first time in 20 years, not having seen him since he ran away after tricking him out of most of his wealth.
The next day would be a major test of Jacob’s faith, not knowing what would happen when he met his brother. He had a sleepless night. That night is the focus of this series.
Have you ever had one of those nights where you had to make a decision or do something the next day that you dreaded and you couldn’t sleep? Maybe that night is tonight. You know the week ahead is going to be burdensome, and you aren’t sure how you are going to face it.
We can learn some things from this story of Jacob about the fear that comes in our life. My question for you today is this: Do you know the God of Jacob? You won’t be able to fully comprehend or enjoy the benefits of God without a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus Christ. If you have that relationship, stay tuned for Good News!
