Yes, LORD, walking in the way of Your laws, we wait for You; Your NAME and renown are the desire of our hearts.
Isaiah 26:8 NIV (emphasis mine)
I like my name, I guess. I was given my middle name after a great-grandfather I never knew. I hid it from people growing up, but now I'm kind of proud of it, knowing where it came from. I know people who wish they had a different name. My mother's name is Betty, but I have often heard her say that she wishes her mother had chosen Emily instead. My sister's name is Wendy. She prefers to have it spelled "Wendi". She has never really been crazy about her name.
I can tell you, based on my reading of Scriptures, that God is pleased with His name. When Moses asked God who he should say had sent him to the Israelites, God said to tell them "I Am Who I Am". He is God. He is the One! His name is the renown of all names! There is none who can compare to Him. He is unique! He is God!
Have you come to grips with the fact that the Name of God is precious? In Biblical days, the Israelites would often refrain from using God's name, because it was so revered that they wouldn't dare speak it. I have often heard someone say, "the only thing I really have is my good name". God is that way! He protects His name! He glories in His name! God is pleased with His name! God does what He does to the glory of His name!
Will you do something for me? Will you stop for just a moment, right now, right where you are, and reflect for a moment on the Name of God? Think about His Glory! Think about His grace! Think about the mercy He extended to you! Think about the eternity He is planning for you! Ask God to reveal to you just how precious is His name!
Then remember that it is all done to the Glory of His Name!
