"How many loaves do you have?" He asked. "Go and see." Mark 6:38 NIV
Okay, you already know the story, let me refresh your memory. Jesus and the disciples were worn out from a day of ministry. People were flocking to Jesus for healing and teaching. Having gone without food, Jesus invited the disciples to slip away with Him for rest. Suddenly, spotting Jesus, another crowd develops numbering more than 5,000.
Jesus had compassion on the people, so He began teaching them many things. Before they knew it, time had slipped away, it was getting late and the people were hungry. The disciples urged Jesus to send the people away, and Jesus basically says, "You feed them." Realizing an impossible task when they saw one, the disciples mumbled that there was not enough food. Which brings us to today's verse where Jesus says, "How much do you have? Go and see."
Did Jesus need a thorough accounting of loaves of bread? Do you think it mattered what brand name the bread was? What if it was low-fat bread? Would that make a difference in Jesus' calculation? Of course not! Jesus didn't need to know! In fact, if you read John's account of this story you will see that Jesus had already planned what He would do. Jesus told the disciples to "Go and see" so that they could fully understand the great miracle Jesus was about to perform!
Perhaps you and I need to "Go and see"! Maybe we need a little accounting of what we DON'T have; then realize how WITH Jesus we have ALL we need. Maybe we need to recognize again the awesome power of God in our lives! Perhaps we need to see Jesus at work once again!
Go and See today the power of God at work through Jesus, when we trust Him alone to provide all our needs!
