I Am Found In You

When He had finished praying, Jesus left with His disciples and crossed the Kidron Valley. On the other side there was an olive grove, and He and His disciples went into it. Now Judas, who betrayed Him, knew the place, because Jesus had often met there with His disciples. So Judas came to the grove, guiding a detachment of soldiers and some officials from the chief priests and Pharisees. They were carrying torches, lanterns and weapons. Jesus, knowing all that was going to happen to Him, went out and asked them, "Who is it you want?" John 18:1-4 NIV
Put yourself within the context of this passage. Jesus and the disciples had been together three years. The disciples had literally put their lives on hold and in danger to follow Christ. They displayed tremendous faith as they went where no one had ever gone before. Jesus had been teaching them the principles of the Kingdom of Heaven. They hadn’t always understood, but they continued to believe. Jesus had become not only their Savior, but their best friend. They loved Him more than they realized they had the capacity to love.
Jesus had just prayed for them, gave His blessings to them, told them He had to depart, and brought them back to the Garden where they had previously been allowed to find solitude and time alone with God. Judas came to betray Jesus, as Scripture had foretold, and suddenly the disciple’s world was turned upside down. They were about to be separated from the Holy One! How would they feel now?
Have you ever had your world, as you know it, pulled out from under you? Have you ever felt like the foundations of your life were taken away? I suspect this is why Jesus had taught the disciples how to build their life upon a solid foundation. I believe this is why He so carefully taught them to abide.
We will talk more about this principle tomorrow, but for today, if you are just barely hanging on to life, will you pause, stop trying to solve the problem, and call upon the grace of God. God promises that His grace is sufficient for your time of need. It was for the disciples, and it will be for you!
