Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone would come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me. Matthew 16:24-25 NIV
We are talking about following Jesus. We have seen that following Jesus is necessary to be found worthy of Christ in our lives. We have also seen that we must follow Christ without knowing where. Today, I want us to take that an additional step. Following Jesus will most always involve personal sacrifice. You will have to give up your own agenda to be a follower of Christ.
I’m not trying to scare off people from being a Christian, but you need to know the realities. The Christian life is hard work. The Bible says we are to live in the world, but not be of this world. We aren’t to behave like everyone else. We aren’t to be “normal”. We are “strangers and aliens” according to God’s Word.
That means when everyone else is out to please themselves, we are out to please God. When everyone else is caught in greed and lust and worry and hatred, we remain steadfast in God’s love. We don’t behave this way because its always comfortable, but because we have chosen to follow Christ.
Jesus said, “Come, follow Me!” Are you willing to follow Him on His terms?
