and anyone who does not take his cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me. Matthew 10:38 NIV
We are talking about following this week. Jesus asked His disciples to follow Him. In fact, the whole Bible is full of instances where God calls people to follow Him. We are to follow Him without knowing where. The very definition of faith requires that kind of response. Jesus is still calling people to follow Him today.
I want you to re-read today’s verse. Thankfully, when Jesus asked the disciples to follow Him they left everything and went willingly. Not everyone did, however. The rich young ruler said “no” to Jesus request. It was apparently too large a request for him. Not everyone is going to follow Jesus, but one thing Jesus makes very clear, failing to follow Jesus makes us unworthy of Jesus.
Believers follow. Those who love Jesus follow. Those who want a personal relationship with Jesus Christ follow.
May I ask you to question yourself for a moment? Ask yourself: Am I a follower of Jesus Christ? Am I willing to go wherever He leads and do whatever He commands? That’s what it means to follow Jesus!
Oh God, help us to be followers of Jesus Christ!
