I may not see in front of me, But I can see for miles around when I look over my shoulder, and Lord, it`s clear. You`ve brought me here, So faithful every step of the way. What can I do but follow you, For You are the Way, the Truth, the Life, And You`ve promised never to leave me, My Savior, my friend, From beginning to end.

I Am Found In You by Steven Curtis Chapman
Five Stones, Part 2

Serve only the LORD your God and fear him alone. Obey his commands, listen to his voice, and cling to him. Deuteronomy 13:4 NLT

I know the commands. I hope to follow them, but to be honest this one is a little difficult. I’ve still got some fears in my life. Sure, I’ve come a long way. I’ve had to tackle some giant fears, but then when life throws something at me I didn’t expect, fear is my fastest response.

David probably was at least a little afraid to face Goliath. We tend to think of him as the brave young shepherd boy, and certainly he was, but from the reading of the Psalms, David was probably also scared to death, but he didn’t allow his fear from keeping him from doing God’s will.

What in your life has you so afraid that you can’t seem to function? You’ve tried not thinking about it, but the more you try, the bigger the fear seems to be. I’ve learned a secret about fear. Can I share it with you? The reality of fear is that the outcome we fear is usually never as big as what we feared it might be. Fear has a way of producing unrealistic situations. Over time, if left unchecked, fear will cripple us from continuing with God’s plan for our life.

I’m not going to be so bold as to tell you to obey the Word. You aren’t supposed to fear anything, but God. That’s a great challenge, but few of us will ever really get there completely. Still, it’s a worthy goal. Why not start by tackling one fear at a time? Put aside the fear long enough to step out in faith. As you begin to experience God in your life, realizing that He is in control in spite of your fears, you’ll be better able to tackle the “giant” fears.
