I may not see in front of me, But I can see for miles around when I look over my shoulder, and Lord, it`s clear. You`ve brought me here, So faithful every step of the way. What can I do but follow you, For You are the Way, the Truth, the Life, And You`ve promised never to leave me, My Savior, my friend, From beginning to end.

I Am Found In You by Steven Curtis Chapman

For I want you to understand what really matters, so that you may live pure and blameless lives until Christ returns. Philippians 1:10 N LT

Wow! What a concept! What if you and I understood what really matters? Wouldn’t that change so much of our life?

As a parent I have tried to incorporate grace into our home. I have rules, but I try to design them as a way to mold my children, not to simply make life difficult for them. That’s my goal, but in a day-to-day situation, I’m as likely as the next parent to concentrate on things that, in the whole scheme of life, really don’t matter. When the boys do something that doesn’t please me, regardless of how I might first react, I am trying to step back and consider the end goal of my parenting; molding their character. Then I can ask myself if what they did “really matters” along that process, or if it is just something I’m upset about at the time. Many times I have found that I was probably over-reacting, but in some cases maybe under-reacting.

The same process can apply to my own life. I sometimes get upset with myself over things that really don’t matter. It’s nice to have all my clothes clean and ironed, but it’s more important that I spend time with the Lord. When I consider my life, and the process of becoming more like Christ, what really matters? Those are the things which should consume my greatest attention.

Are you spending the energy of your life on what really matters? Building a great financial kingdom, in light of eternity, will not be nearly as important as building a great marriage or family. Building a great physical body (as important as this is) will pale in comparison to the need to build a great spiritual body in Christ.

Ask God today to help you examine your life and determine what “really matters”.

Tell your friends about this ministry. Why not forward a copy of the email to those you think might benefit from reading a Mustard Seed? Some churches use it as a supplement to their discipleship program. Perhaps your church would be interested in doing this. All I ask is that credit be given to the ministry.
