By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.
Hebrews 11:7 NIV
It hadn't rained. Prior to the flood of Noah's day, the earth had never experienced rain. I have heard that all my life and I fully believe it. Noah was building an ark, and a big one I might add, to protect his family and the animals from something none of them had ever seen.
It took Noah over 100 years to complete the project. He had to build a boat larger than seemed humanly possible at the time. He built it to the exact specifications God had given him, fully expecting two of every living creature to actually come to him to be saved by the ark. Can you imagine the looks on people's faces when the two by twos started to arrive? I'm quite sure that due to the unrighteousness of the day, Noah had to endure countless days of scorn and ridicule by his neighbors and friends. Yet, the Bible says, "Noah did just as the Lord commanded him." (Gen. 6:22)
Do you want to understand faith? Look at the life of Noah. He didn't consider his own personal agenda. He didn't look for the seen, but for the unseen. He trusted not in the things of this world, but the things which are permanent. He fully trusted God to deliver him from all his trials, and to reward him for all his labor. He made God's desires his own.
Simply put, if you want a faith that pleases God as Noah had, then follow the example Noah set. Do just as the Lord has commanded!
That is faith.
