Then, as the LORD our God commanded us, we set out from Horeb and went toward the hill country of the Amorites through all that vast and dreadful desert that you have seen, and so we reached Kadesh Barnea.
Deuteronomy 1:19 NIV
Have you ever wondered why God chose the path He has for you?
Maybe your life has seen only smooth sailing. You have not had to fight the storms of life which many of us do. You have been blessed with a life without pain and strife. You have no sorrows to report. Does that describe you?
Or, like me, have you had days of real struggle? Have there been times in your life when the valley was so full of troubles, you couldn't look up to see the mountains? Have you suffered from a broken heart and sometimes failed to understand why life has to be so difficult? Has doubt occupied your heart more than faith some days?
Do you ever wonder why? Do you feel like asking God why?
A pastor friend of mine once made a statement that has always stuck with me. He said that "God does not give everyone the priviledge of suffering". Wow! What a statement! What a reflection on our God of love!
In today's verse, Moses is recounting to the people how God led them through the most dreadful land. On the other side, they found the Promise Land, but getting there was tough! If you are a follower of God you need to know that God may send you through some trials in life. He may allow you to suffer. He does this so that men will call on Him, and be strengthened by His grace and mercy. He wants us to learn to trust Him, in all circumstances, but especially when life is tough.
Are you going through a trial? Are you struggling in your faith? Use this time to call upon the Lord. Use it to trust Him more. Use it as a time where He can mold and make you into who He wants you to be.
On the other side is the Promise Land! Hold on tight! You will get there!
