I may not see in front of me, But I can see for miles around when I look over my shoulder, and Lord, it`s clear. You`ve brought me here, So faithful every step of the way. What can I do but follow you, For You are the Way, the Truth, the Life, And You`ve promised never to leave me, My Savior, my friend, From beginning to end.

I Am Found In You by Steven Curtis Chapman
Developing a Zeal
By: Ron Edmondson Friday, February 28, 2003
The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this. 2 Kings 19:31b

This week we have been looking at selected verses in 2 Kings chapter 19. We have seen that God knows and care for us, that sin does have consequences, and that there has always been a remnant of God’s people who are fully committed to doing His will. When the Lord made His remarks as recorded in 2 Kings 19, He concludes with this statement: “the zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this!”

This is an often recorded phrase in the Bible and I believe it simply means this is something God is going to give His whole heart to. God is passionate about His character. He is passionately against sin, and God protects and builds His remnant with passion.

This reminds me that if I want to really grow in my Christian experience, I need to become passionate about that growth. I need to develop zeal, which is an all consuming passion, to looking, acting and being just like Jesus. Recently a friend of mine and I were discussing golf. He said that he really wants to improve his game for this Spring, but he realized that in order to get any better he was going to have to change something about his swing.

I think that statement has spiritual implications as well. If we are ever going to grow to be like Christ, we will have to make some changes. Some of those will be easier than others, but the rewards will be beyond measure. As our zeal develops, so will the changes come, and so will the fruit of Christ come forth in our life.

Dear Lord, continue to help us be like Jesus!
