I may not see in front of me, But I can see for miles around when I look over my shoulder, and Lord, it`s clear. You`ve brought me here, So faithful every step of the way. What can I do but follow you, For You are the Way, the Truth, the Life, And You`ve promised never to leave me, My Savior, my friend, From beginning to end.

Deny Two
By: Ron EdmondsonTuesday, April 15, 2008
"This is to be a lasting ordinance for you: On the tenth day of the seventh month you must deny yourselves and not do any work — whether native-born or an alien living among you —because on this day atonement will be made for you, to cleanse you. Leviticus 16:29-30 NIV
Sometimes I work too hard to read my Bible. I know; I’m a pastor, how could I not read my Bible. I guess I always read something from my Bible, but what I’m referring to is that real, deep intimate time of study where I’m in God’s Word enough to actually be changed by it. I seem to simply read for information; not for relationship. I have to preach and teach, so I read to accomplish my mission, but sometimes its days before I actually sit at the feet of God in prayer and Bible study, gleaning from the Spirit-filled pages of His Holy Word.
I think that’s one of the reasons we are not today to deny ourselves down time. Even in the busy seasons of life (which are never ending it seems) we need to discipline ourselves to do nothing. It is during those times, when we pick up our Bible, that the Bible seems to become more than just another book, but it becomes our source to comfort, joy, peace and relationship with our Father God.
How are you doing at taking the “down times” of life? Could you use a break today to spend time with the God who created you and loves you so much? Something tells me He wants the time with you, even if you are not longing for that time with Him.
