Do not deny justice to your poor people in their lawsuits. Have nothing to do with a false charge and do not put an innocent or honest person to death, for I will not acquit the guilty. Exodus 23:6-7 NIV
So many times in my life I have watched as an innocent person was “put to death”. I’m not talking about capital punishment. I’m talking about crucifixion by gossip and words of destruction. The rumor mill has destroyed many reputations; caused people to lose interest in God and the church; and destroyed people’s sense of self worth.
Can I ask you to strongly consider the way you talk about someone else’s life or situation? Will you sincerely consider if you are speaking truth; and even if what you are saying is true, what the motive is behind your words? If your desire is to share the latest “news” from the streets, will it help or hurt another’s reputation? Will it bring someone closer to Christ or further away? Will what you say help to share the love of Christ or is it an evil of the tongue?
Let’s let our talk be filled with truth, kindness, compassion and goodwill and never deny a person the same respect we would want others to give to us.
