As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you; and you will be comforted over Jerusalem."
Isaiah 66:13 NIV
There is nothing quite like seeing a young child comforted by his mother. I was in grocery recently and witnessed a little boy falling. He wasn’t hurt that much, but he started to cry. I tried to offer help to him, but he didn’t want me. He wanted his mother. When “Momma” arrived everything was okay. She knew how to comfort her little boy.
Who do you think taught that mother how to comfort? Did she read it in a book? Was she taught in Momma’s School? Did she learn it on Oprah? Of course a mother’s love is instinctive. It comes naturally. I have watched many of the young mother’s in our Sunday School class before their first child. Many times they worry about how they will be as a mother. When it comes to comforting their children, however, I’ve yet to find a mother that didn’t know how.
That instinct could have only come from the mother’s designer. God created a mother’s love. God designed a mother to comfort her child? Don’t you think God, who came up with the idea of a mother’s comfort, should know something about comforting?
I don’t know where you are struggling in your life right now. If the statistics among the readers of Mustard Seeds holds true, then the chances are very good that if you are reading this, then you are in the middle of a trial right now. You could use comforting. I might remind you that God knows how to comfort; even better than a mother knows how to comfort her child.
