May Your unfailing love be my comfort, according to Your promise to Your servant. Psalm 119:76 NIV
I am going to go ahead and admit that some readers are not going to agree with this Mustard Seed. Many, even if they agree that its true, will not want it to be true. Believe me, I understand.
Here we go! I do not believe God has promise to take away all your pain while on this earth. He has not promised to heal every person who is sick, restore every marriage, or to reverse the consequences of sin. We like for Him to do these things, and many times He does, but it isn’t because He has promised to do so.
Faith is trusting in who God says He is, even when we can’t understand what He is doing. God doesn’t claim in the Bible to be someone who keeps us from every trial. In fact, as I read Scriptures, I think there are many times when God allows those trials to come our way. Paul even goes so far as to say we should “rejoice in our sufferings”. Imagine that?
God does promise, however, that His grace is sufficient for all our needs. He does promise to give us grace and mercy in our time of need. He does promise us that He is creating an eternal life for us where these light and momentary trials. He does promise that His love for us is forever; He will never leave us nor forsake us.
I believe the Psalmist knew these promises of God. He was finding comfort not in his circumstances, or his ability to interpret those circumstances. He was finding comfort in the promises of God.
Do you need to go back and refresh your memory about the promises of God? Could you use a fresh touch from the Comforter? Why not ask God to remind you of the promises He has given you in His Word?
