I may not see in front of me, But I can see for miles around when I look over my shoulder, and Lord, it`s clear. You`ve brought me here, So faithful every step of the way. What can I do but follow you, For You are the Way, the Truth, the Life, And You`ve promised never to leave me, My Savior, my friend, From beginning to end.

I Am Found In You by Steven Curtis Chapman
Come Thirsty
By: Ron Edmondson Monday, February 06, 2006
Jesus answered, "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again." John 4:13 NIV

Let me remind you of the story. Jesus was on His way to Galilee. John writes that Jesus "had to go through Samaria". Actually that would have been very strange for a Jew, like Jesus, to go through Samaria. The Samaritans, who were half Jew and half Gentile, were hated by most Jews. Jesus not only goes through Samaria, but He makes a planned pit stop to draw water from Jacob's Well.

At the well, Jesus meets a Samaritan woman. Again, this was a strange event, because Jewish men were not to speak to women in public, but especially not a Samaritan woman, and not one with such a past as this woman who had five prior husbands and was now living with a man who was not her husband. Now, to complicate matters further, Jesus asks the woman for a drink! Wow! Talk about radical!

Jesus now makes a statement that seems even stranger than the circumstances of Him being in Samaria. He says that anyone who drinks "this water" will thirst again. Can you say "Duh"? Thank you Jesus for that startling revelation! (Please don't read this as disrespectful. I am attempting to make a point.) If you didn't understand Jesus' intent, you would begin to think He was simply stating the obvious!

When Jesus talks about "this water", He is not talking about the water she is drawing from the well. As was often the case when Jesus spoke, He was speaking of the Samaritan woman's heart. He was basically saying "anyone who drinks the water you've been drinking, the spiritual water, will thirst again". In other words, if you are satisfying the thirst of your heart in the world, then your heart will soon be thirsty again.

If you are finding your fulfillment in money, fame, job success, lust, greed or any other worldly pleasure then shortly after the fun, you'll be thirsty again. Jesus offered this woman Living Water! He was offering Himself, the cure for spiritual thirstiness.

Friend, may I ask you; ARE YOU THIRSTY? Are you trying to find your happiness in life through the things of the world, but finding out you just can't be satisfied. "This water" will never cure your thirst for good! Maybe you need to draw from the Well that contains Living Water!

Jesus is the only real cure for the thirstiness of life!
