Jesus replied, “Let us go somewhere else... to nearby villages... so I can preach there also. That is why I have come.” Mark 1:38 NIV
Make no mistake about it, Jesus came to tell the Good News! All the miracles were great, but the preaching came first.
What would our New Testament be like if we only heard of the many healings Christ performed? What if we only knew about the walking on the water or the feeding of 5,000? Can you imagine only reading about the healing of the bleeding woman and not the salvation of her soul?
What if Christ had never told us that He is the Living Water, that if we drink of Him we will never thirst again? What if He hadn't shared that He was the Bread of Life, or that He came to give us life that we might live more abundantly? What if we had no record of Jesus saying that He was the Way the Truth and the Life and no man can come to the Father, but through Him?
Although those miracles were great, Jesus came not to heal, Jesus came to preach the Good News. Jesus came to proclaim that He is the great I AM, the path towards eternal life. The fact that Christ came to be a preacher means that you and I, two thousand years later, might also be the recipient of His Good News.
So praise God today that Jesus was a Preacher!
