Then Jesus declared, "I am the Bread of Life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty." John 6:35 NIV
Jesus was very specific in this promise. To say that Jesus "declared" is a much stronger statement than to say Jesus "said" something. When Jesus declared this commitment to His people, it was a declaration of not only who He is, but what a difference He makes in the life of those who love Him.
I feel very fortunate to have grown up in such prosperous times. I have heard my grandparents refer to the Depression earlier last century. I do know personally what it feels like to wonder who would pay for the next meal. But, folks, I can honestly say that since Jesus came into my life, I have never really been hungry and never been thirsty.
Oh, sure, there have been some difficult days. And, I have missed a lunch or two whiched caused my stomach growl. But, I must confess, from deep within my heart, that my God has never forsaken me. I have never been deserted. While outwardly I may have appeared to be lacking, inwardly I was becoming stronger everyday.
If Jesus is your Bread of Life, you can be assured, your spirit will never be empty. Jesus will be all you need to survive.
