Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea.
Psalm 46:2I know, easier said than done, right?
I have had the pleasure of raising two boys. As they have grown up, it has been my role as a father to teach them to be strong. While their mother's role has been to nurture and “mother” them, I have tried to show them how to stand the test of time-- to be real men in an often difficult and scary world. (Yes, I recognize that the roles often overlap.) For example, when they were small and one of the boys got hit with a ball, but they were clearly not hurt, I'm the one that got to say, “Hang in there, you're okay!”
However, I must tell you that for me to always “stand tough” is often not easy. There are some trials I face that frankly scare me to death! (Don't tell my boys. They don't think I'm afraid of anything!)
To be perfectly honest, I have to resolve in my heart NOT to be afraid. I have to make a conscious decision to place all my trust in God. I have to choose His promises, by faith, over my fears. I have to depend upon what I cannot see, to defend myself against the real, tangible dangers in the world today.
When I'm faced with financial battles, relationship troubles, heartache, or physical pain, I must personally choose not to be afraid, but to completely rest in His tender care to see me through yet another trial.
It takes effort and determination, but I will not fear! God, grant me the strength to carry it through!
